Steve Zipay’s Blue Notes has mentioned that the Rangers might be in pursuit of Montreal Canadiens’ scrappy defenseman, Francis Bouillon. Sure, he’s a fiery guy who can add a jolt to the club off the bench, but something about a 33-year old veteran with a 5-8 200 lb frame doesn’t get me all too excited.
Then again, the rest of the Ranger blue-liners are all 6-2 or 6-3, so maybe having a little mighty mouse to change things up isn’t such a bad idea. Bouillon’s a rough and tough native New Yorker with the city-born passion to compete and desire to win – three characteristics that play perfectly into the hands of Coach Tortorella. And have you ever met a Ranger fan who didn’t appreciate a hard worker that loves to get his nose dirty? Especially one on the blue line protecting the King? I didn’t think so.
So, while it remains to be seen whether or not Glen Sather will make an offer, Blue Line Station would love to have the stout defender from the Canadiens come home to play for the Broadway Blueshirts. What could be better than a third pairing veteran defenseman who already comes to the bright lights of Manhattan equipped with the nickname, “Frank the Tank?”
