The Rangers came to terms with another former Tortorella favorite from the 2004 Cup winning Lightning squad, Vaclav Prospal. The 34-year old Czech native is another versatile veteran that knows what it takes to play in Coach Tortorella’s aggressive natured system.
Prospal is fully capable of playing the wing or the center position, which means he will anchor the top line in the middle of Marian Gaborik and either Sean Avery or Chris Higgins if Brandon Dubinsky is not up to the task.
Prospal played in all 82 games last season for the Tampa Bay Ligtning and registered 19 goals and 26 assists, to go along with seven goals and eight assists on the power play. Adding the seven-time 50+ point scorer to the roster likely means that the Rangers are done adding forwards and are no longer in the mix in dealing for Dany Heatley.
