Some people fight guys who wear no. 91. I embrace the high number. (b12partners.com)

2009 Training Camp Roster Released

Here are some comments from Blue Line Station regarding the roster…

1) Lots of potential high numbers.

As much as Dennis Rodman or Ron Artest love the high jersey numbers, so do I.  With  new additions to the team we could be looking realistically at three – possibly four – guys with numbers higher than 80.  Donald Brashear will bring his no. 87 to New York, Enver Lisin is lining up at the wing with a no. 81 on his back, and the fabled Matt Gilroy will be sporting the one year hiccup in the Yankees magical five year late nineties dynasty run, no. 97.  While highly unlikely, newcomer Chad Johnson will be sporting no. 96 as he battles Steve Valiquette for the backup goaltender spot.

2) How/why is Patrick Rissmiller on the squad?

See above question…and continue to scratch your head.

3) To win like the (New York) Giants, you must play with Giants

Newcomers Brian Boyle and Matt Maccarone are both listed at a towering 6-7.  Boyle was brought over from Los Angeles for a third-round pick and Maccarone has been brought in as a developmental prospect.  When googling his name, the one thing I get his his facebook page…

4) Last but not least, you gotta love the youth on this squad

25 and Under Club:

Corey Locke (25), Maccarone (25),  Gilroy (25), Dan Girardi (25), Corey Potter (25), Ryan Callahan (24) Boyle (24), Dane Byers (23), Brandon Dubinsky (23), Chad Johnson (23), Marc Staal (22), Mike Sauer (22), Artem Anisimov (21), Bobby Sanguinetti (21) – and a few other prospects.

30 and Under Club:

Tyler Aranson (30), Ales Kotalik (30), Rissmiller (30), Sean Avery (29), Aaron Voros (28), Henrik Lundqvist (27), Lisin (27), Marian Gaborik (27), Chris Higgins (26), Pierre Parenteau (26) – and a couple other minor league guys.

The key thing here is that really our only old guys are Chris Drury (33), Brashear (37), Vinny Prospal (34), Wade Redden (32) and Mikey Rozsival (31).

This is a young Ranger team!
