Preseason Game 4
New York Rangers 5, Boston Bruins 2 — 19 Sept 2009 — TD Banknorth Garden, Boston, MA
Rangers (1-2-1) in Preseason.
The Rangers finally cracked the win column in the 2009-10 preseason, and finally netted a power play goal. Newcomer Ales Kotalik kicked off the scoring with the Rangers first power play goal of the preseason at 4:30 in the first (assists by Michael Del Zotto and Vinny Prospal). Sean Avery had an unassisted goal at 7:44 to pad the lead to 2-0. After former Ranger Marc Savard scored to trim the lead to one, the emerging Artem Anisimov (assisted by Pierre Parenteau and my boy Alexei Semenov) put the Blueshirts back up two with a shorthanded goal to end the scoring in the first period.
In the second, the Bruins once again cut the deficit to one, but Enver Lisin continued to be a pest around the net when he scored on a tip-in at 14:04 (assisted by Prospal and Kotalik). In the third, Parenteau (assisted by Dane Byers, Anisimov) completed the scoring at 16:58 and sent the Rangers back home happy.
Steve Valiquette stopped 12 of 14 shots, while Nueve Seis stopped all 12 that came his way. Marian Gaborik once again was a no show, while captain Chris Drury was also absent from the lineup.
The race to crack the roster as a defenseman continued as Matt Gilroy, Bobby Sanguinetti, Semenov and Del Zotto all had their ups and downs in this game. Both Gilroy and Semenov had plus-2′s on the night.
