Welcome To The Party Vinny

After a 14 game absence, Vinny Prospal returned to the goal column netting 2, including the game winner off a nice play by Dubinsky to toss the puck in front.  After the first goal Prospal looked to the heavens like “thank you god, it’s about time.”  Kind of like Higgins did a while back (pretty much the last time he scored…but that’s another story).  The top line is clicking now that Dubie is back playing well.  And I stress “line,” not just Gaborik (who also scored and had an assist, of course).

And the love the top line is giving seems to be trickling down to the rest of the team.  Drury is firing pucks and has added jump to his offensive game.  Lisin played like a man possessed (though he did fade some in the third period).  Nice to have two non-broken feet and the fear of getting demoted to push you.  Callahan is back at a fringe-Olympic caliber level.  He’s like Jeter.  Game in and game out you know what you are getting.  And of course Lundqvist.  A few great saves off of loose neutral zone turnovers (some of which were fluke bounces), otherwise ho-hum.  He must be happy his GAA is dropping.  17 goals in the last 10 games will do that.

I still think Redden gets dropped after the Christmas freeze gets lifted.  I’m actually on the fence about this.  He’s not playing up to par, but he is playing fairly well.  And our defense is young to begin with.  Still, even if we make the playoffs this year it’s a lost year if we do not develop young guys and build for the next few years.  Then again, with his contract, he’s here for the next few years anyway.  Ugh.  I’ll probably change my mind on this tomorrow again.  Basically, each game he plays he yo-yos.  Imagine how Torts feels?

Love the way Del Zotto hits.  A bit shocking actually.  He’s got some grit.

When do we get to see Chad Johnson play?  I bet it’s December 31 in Carolina (the back end of two consecutive games).  Unless the winning streak is still on of course.  Cause Torts will ride Henrik till he breaks.  And you know Lundqvist is not asking out.

Next game Saturday versus the Islanders.  Love these divisional games!
