After their latest 3-2 OTL loss to the Islanders, Dubinksy said “I don’t think we deserved to lose.” Maybe. But the Rangers certainly did not deserve to win either. The Rangers were out-hustled much of the game. They were beaten to lose pucks and denied passage through the neutral zone. By no stretch were the Islanders flying themselves, but they certainly were the “better” team. Some games have a feel where you know your team is going to come back. You just know. I never had that feeling, even after Dubinsky’s second goal with just seconds left in the third (off a nifty pass/shot from Callahan). I found myself hoping for a shootout. Not a good feeling against what is supposed to be a bad team.
I’ve watched 3 Rangers-Islanders and handful of other Islanders games recently. I have to admit, I am pretty impressed with their work ethic. They seem unafraid to lose. Got to love that in a team. Their talent level is not high (some would say the same about the Rangers, Gaborik and Lundqvist aside), but they do have some very good role players. Sutton, Witt, Okposo (always loved his drive), Park, etc. If they add 1-2 top line players they could be very very good soon. Scary thought for a Ranger team that already has trouble beating them.
