Time To Step Up

It looks like Gaborik will miss a game or two with a deep cut.  Obviously this is a big loss to the team.  But it’s also an opportunity.  Often great players cause other players to stand around them like they’re the sun and nothing else is worthy.  (See the Jagr era.)  The supporting players watch rather than play.  Some of this certainly has been evident with the club this season.  But now there’s no more excuses.  Time for the competitive nature of the other Rangers to pick up the team.  I’m looking at Dubinsky, Callahan, Christensen, and Anisimov in particular.  Jokinen and Drury too.  Will they wilt or will them prosper?  If the latter, and they can carry it to the next game, and then after the Olympic break, we could be on to something.  I realize they should be doing this anyway, even with Gabby playing, but sometimes it’s difficult for young players to not stand in awe of the superstar.
