Sean Of The Dead

Remember Sean? (Source: SportsJudge.com)

I don’t know what was my favorite part of last night’s game?  The 5 goals, the shutout, or the Rangers shooting/making quick decisions at the points.  I lied.  It was none of these.  Unquestionably, my favorite moment was something the refs did.  It only took a year plus, but the refs finally did not call a penalty on Avery simply cause he’s Avery.  When Avery got jumped in the corner after cleanly hitting Tavares, and then shoved back, the refs saddled the Fishsticks with 16 minutes and Avery was allowed to laugh from the bench.  It was the correct call.  And an encouraging sign.  Cause just maybe this will give Avery the room to play his game, like he has started to recently.  We sure know the Rangers need his talent and spark.

That said, I did not enjoy seeing Avery arm wrestle that Islander to the ice behind the play.  I don’t think it was his intent to injure – just to pester – but his arm lock clearly was the reason the dude face-planted.  And left with a concussion.  Should have been a roughing penalty.  It’s the exact type of play that will return Avery to the refs’ bad graces.  He’s so close to leaving the officiating doghouse.  There’s no need for that type of BS stuff.

So since those back and forth e-mails we had, he’s re-emerged? Can we get one of those going about the entire Flyers team?

Nice. He has actually. Was perfect timing with the blog. And…coincidentally…the Rangers are on a two game winning streak. (Granted they lost 3 in a row in there too, but Avery was solid.) I think the Flyers need to resurrect Hextall more than anything.
