Torts Just Couldn't Help Himself

Torts unleashed some very raw comments on the Rangers final day before the off-season.  Check them out in this ESPN article.  I actually do not disagree with any of them.  He’s dead on about Gaborik not showing up in the big games, the lack of team identity, needing to get younger, and so on.  But what the f-ck is he doing bashing the team publicly after the season!?!?  Does he really think leaving the team with a message that can only cause them to further despise him will get them to train better or show up next year with different attitudes???  Was there anything he said publicly that either was not already said during the season or could not have been said privately to each player in their exit interviews?  Maybe he can get away with this type of “teaching” in a small market, but in NYC — the #1 media market in the U.S., if not the world — every comment takes on a life of its own and lingers for months.  News flash Torts:  sometimes it is proper coaching to build up your players.  If I was on the Rangers I’d be looking forward to 5 months away from Torts.  (Incidentally, his comments pretty much foreclose any hope that he’ll be gone next season.)
