The Montreal Canadiens resigned Tom Pyatt this morning to a one-year deal.
Pyatt, if you recall, was one of the 3 “super” players we traded to Montreal in the Gomez/Higgins deal. Pyatt didn’t show much during the regular season but managed to ring up 4 points in the 18 Playoff games he was in, including a Game Winner.
Rangers sent Tomy Pyatt, Scott Gomez, and minor league defender Michael Busto for Chris Higgins (WASTE!!!!), Pavel Valentenko, Doug Janik, and Mr. Ryan McDonagh himself. The best part of that trade so far… Brandon Prust. If you don’t get that, I’m sorry, you need to step up your Rangers knowledge.
Okay, I’ll give a hint to those that don’t remember, look into us re-trading Chris Higgins. Being a Long Island boy, I liked having Higgins on our team, but wow did he blow chunks. His stellar 4.4% shooting percentage kinda says it all. Sarcasm.
Well, back to Ryan McDonagh… for those that don’t know: McDonagh went to school and played on the same team as Derek Stepan, University of Wisconsin. McDonagh is a stand out defenseman who is one of our top prospects. He just saw his teammate, Stepan, get signed by the Rangers and he’s already won a NCAA Championship. He’s currently having trouble deciding whether he should come out of school and sign with the Rangers, or take the Captainship and stay in school.
Part of me want to pull a Billy Madison on him.
The other part of me wants him to come out and not turn into another Matt Gilroy, stay too long and not get the correct experience needed. College hockey is a nice game, but even Division I is no where as close to the AHL and its pace and talent.
Now for some fashion advice by Sean Avery… Hope you like the pic
