Ryan McDonagh officially made his decision yesterday late afternoon whether he was to stay at the University of Wisconsin for his senior year or sign his first professional contract.
Well, McDonut is now officially a Ranger. This came only about a week after the development camp in Greenburgh, NY. His first ice time as a New York Ranger will be when he reports to training camp in September.
The former 2007 1st Round draft pick was acquired by the Rangers in the Scott Gomez trade with the Montreal Canadiens. We unloaded an extremely overpriced player, and in return we received quite a bit of future talent. So, once again, thank you Habs for the Donut, and Pavel Valentenko. I guess I can thank you for Brandon Prust, too, in some sort of way (we acquired Chris Higgins in the Habs trade and then sent him with Kotalik to Calgary for Olli Joke-inin and Prust). Ultimately, we traded for Prust. I’m alright with that considering the rest were also overpaid skaters that can’t contribute.
Donuts‘ Accolades include:
2-time All-State high school hockey player
2-time All-Conference high school hockey player
Won State Championship from Cretin-Derham High School
Earned All-Tournament from the State Championship run
2007 Minnesota Mr. Hockey
Silver Medal with Team USA at the 2007 World U-18 Junior Championship
Drafted 12th Overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens
College Stats – 119 GP – 14 G – 46 P – 166 PIM
In reality, you can probably expect to see McDonagh playing in a Broadway Blueshirt at some point this season, whether for a little stretch or taking a spot.
If it’s one thing the Rangers are loaded on though, its defensive prospects.
