Stepan With A Bang

Yeah, I know this is late. I apologize for my week absence. I’ve been really busy with an organization (Civil Air Patrol) I belong with in the past week. I’ve been trying to get help on this site as well and obviously that’s not going so well. I know none of these are acceptable excuses as to my lapse in posting. But don’t worry, I wont give up and we’ll find some good writers to make this blog better. That’s my goal, and I’m not going to stop until I start hating hockey [fat chance].

Opening night was a glorious night for all Ranger fans. The first game of the season couldn’t have looked any better. The Buffalo Sabres didn’t expect anything like this.

Rookie Derek Stepan continued his glorious pace from pre-season into the regular season setting records and getting kisses.  Stepan scored the first goal of the Rangers season to take the lead 1-0 by passing across Ryan Miller’s crease towards Sean Avery but it deflected off sophomore Tyler Myers’s skates and into the net.
The Rangers would take a 2-0 lead off a fantastic feed from Artem Anisimov to Brandon Dubinsky.

In the second period, Buffalo notched one to make it a game again. Only four minutes later Stepan puts in a rebound off of a Marc Staal shot to make the game 3-1 and snag his second of the night. A little over three minutes later Sean Avery from behind the net feeds a center pass to Stepan who’s waiting in front to complete the hat trick and set a record night.

No Ranger has ever scored 3 goals in their first game of their career, and Stepan is only the 4th player in NHL’s 93 year history to accomplish this feat.

After the second period came to a close, Stepan was given a congratulatory kiss on the face plate from Brandon Dubinksy, who managed to score twice in this game. The third period became more of the same as Erik Christensen scored to make it 5-1. By this time, most of the Sabres looked like they’d rather play golf than continue the game. Jordan Leopold scored his second goal from the point for the Sabres to make the hole a little less deep. Derek Roy scored his 3rd goal of the year to almost have the game seem competitive before Dubs put in the empty netter securing his second goal and the game.

All-in-all, an amazing start to the season which makes us all dance as if we were an episode of Glee. If the Rangers and Stepan can continue this pace, we’ll be sitting pretty and Stepan will have 246 goals. That’s not too much to ask is it?
