Tonight marks the 2nd game of the amazing New York rivalry between the Islanders and the Rangers. Also, tonight starts a back-to-back rivalry match-up that starts in Nassau Coliseum and ends tomorrow at Madison Square Garden.
The Blueshirts finished November 9-7 and there’s no better way to start December off than two big games against the Rangers’ biggest rivals.
Head Coach John Tortorella making a big move by taking Sean Avery from the 4th line and bumping all the way up to the 1st line with Marian Gaborik and Erik Christensen. This bumps slumping Alex Frolov out of the line into (hopefully) something more comfortable for him. It’ll be interesting to see how Avery does returning to the first line, something Sean hasn’t seen since last season.
Aves has said this week that he wants the Rangers to start acting like they have a chip on their shoulder. Avery told the NY Post…
“We have to have a swagger, and I don’t mean just against the Islanders, but for Ottawa on Sunday, and pretty much straight through.
“Look at the Jets. They prepare for every game and start every game with the attitude that they’re the greatest team to ever walk on a football field. I don’t see a problem with that if you have a work ethic, which we do.”
Also returning tonight, is Derek Boogaard who has been absent lately with shoulder issues. Just in time for some needed hard hitting. With his return means that Matt Gilroy and Todd White will be healthy scratches.
All the Rangers have to do is play like a Jet. Just not a Winnipeg Jet.
