Mats Zuccarello Fractures Hand

No playoff "beard" could stop Zuccarello from breaking his hand (circlingthewagon.wordpress.com)

Rangers’ Overtime Superhero Mats Zuccarello, who was sent down after Game Two, fractured his hand in the Connecticut Whale’s 5-4 playoff loss to the Portland Pirates last night. The injury bug continues to hit the Rangers in all levels. Zuccarello was probably staying in Hartford for the rest of the year, but that’s still a solid development opportunity that he will be missing. Zuccarello also will probably miss all of the World Championships as a result of his injury, which is a big blow to Norway since they’ll be missing possibly their best player. Not a very good way for Zuccarello to end his season, but I still consider the 2010-2011 campaign a moderate success for him. He proved that his size isn’t a significant problem, and he can contribute offensively at this level. Much like Anisimov, it’s about developing consistency. Zuccarello still has much to learn, and he’ll be the first to admit it. Hopefully he puts in the necessary work in the offseason to mature a bit more physically. The sky is the limit for him.
