At first it seemed likely that Jaromir Jagr would be returning to the NHL for the upcoming season, and the Rangers looked to be in the mix for his services. A day later that report was disregarded, as it seemed inevitable that he would be signing in the KHL. It appeared to be only a matter of when the deal would get done. Well, it’s almost a month later, and the “imminent” deal with SKA Petersburg still hasn’t been signed. And now reports are surfacing in the Czech Republic that he is, in fact, looking to play in the NHL after all.
This is becoming Brett Favre-like, though not nearly as frustrating and everlasting as Favre’s yearly soap operas. Is Jagr really thinking about coming back to the NHL, or was is his agent simply using the Czech media to scare SKA Petersburg into giving him the contract that he wants? Who the hell knows. I do know this though. While I won’t be astounded if Jagr does in fact come back to the NHL, I will be completely shocked if he is wearing a Rangers sweater. The article tells us to get ready to see Jagr in a “Montreal or Rangers jersey” but I’m going to continue to assume that Jagr will be playing in Russia next season.
But hey, it’s a slow news day, so it’s worth bringing up. It’s not like news just came out that Drury will be bought out or anything.
