Rangers Interested in Andrew Brunette? (UPDATED)

Would Andrew Brunette solve some deficiencies on the Rangers power play? (www.zimbio.com)

As per Bob McKenzie of TSN, the Rangers might have some interesting in bringing in free agent LW Andrew Brunette. McKenzie cites that Chicago and Nashville also have interest in the former Wild player, with Chicago in the lead to acquire his services. Brunette, 37, just finished a three-year contract with Minnesota with a cap hit of $2.3 million.

If Brunette is looking for a one-year deal at a relatively cheap price, I wouldn’t say its a terrible move for the Rangers to make. He would add some depth on the left wing and, throughout his career, Brunette has been a regular point producer on the power play, something the Rangers have struggled at the past few seasons. Plus, Brunette would add some veteran leadership on a young Rangers team now that former Rangers captain Chris Drury is gone.

That being said, would I advocate this move? Not necessarily. i don’t think Brunette is the way to go for the Rangers. Even if veterans like Prospal and Fedotenko do not return.

Stay tuned to see if the interest the Rangers have in Brunette is more than just casual.
