Per Columbus GM Scott Howson’s twitter, former New York Ranger forward Vinny Prospal has signed a 1 year deal with the Blue Jackets. Prospal had 88 points in 104 games during his two year span as a Ranger.
John Tortorella stated once the 2010-2011 season ended that the Rangers would have to make decisions about their veteran free agents. From that point on Prospal’s tenure in New York was in doubt. Once July came and nothing happened in regards to Prospal it became clear that his time with the Rangers was up. Obviously we’re going to miss Prospal’s enthusiasm and veteran presence, but it was evident that he just didn’t have the speed or strength he used to after his unfortunate training camp injury. Despite that, though, he was the catalyst of the epic comeback against the Bruins late in the season that might have saved the Rangers from missing the playoffs for a second year in a row. Considering the number of veterans we’ve seen come to New York as if it was a retirement home, it was nice seeing a guy like Prospal show us that he still gave a damn and put in a complete effort every game. We wish Vinny nothing but the best of luck in Columbus.
