You’re not quite sure if the news of J.T. Miller signing an entry-level contract yesterday, expediting his professional development just a tad, is a good or a bad thing yet. He did renege on his verbal commitment to the University of North Dakota to instead play for the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL. In doing so, Miller will have a chance to showcase his talents to Rangers brass this training camp but all signs point to him going to the OHL for his first season as a pro hockey player. The Rangers went off the board to draft him 15th overall so they must see something in his game other teams didn’t; they must feel the gamble is worth it. And to have him join the professional ranks this early indicates they feel he can contribute sooner rather than later. Either way, the news yesterday means J.T. Miller’s path the Rangers is a little shorter than before.
