This past weekend was slow in terms of Rangers news. Since all the Rangers RFA’s re signed, sealed, and delivered for next season – not to mention have roughly $1 million in cap space – I expect news to be few and far between until September training camp. But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t anything out there that couldn’t satisfy your hockey appetite!
Join me after the jump to recap the weekend and see what you missed.
There’s a photo making the rounds on the Internet that could be a “leaked” Rangers Winter Classic jersey. Take it for what it’s worth. [The New York Rangers Blog]
Speaking of the Classic, Larry Brooks wrote that the Winter Classic hasn’t been made “official” yet as both teams (Rangers, Flyers) are still in the finalizing stages. [NY Post]
Sam McCaig finished up his “NHL’s top” series with the goalies and has Henrik Lundqvist ranked 3rd best. That means he should’ve been a Vezina finalist, no? [Puck Daddy]
Kevin Allen must REALLY miss hockey as he has his 2011-2012 NHL predictions. He has the Rangers moving up, but how much? [USA Today]
Nice to see former Ranger Alex Frolov open his mouth about ex-teammate and friend Sean Avery. [Deadspin]
From the realm of interesting, Ryan Dixon writes how convincing free agents to sign with your team is a game all in itself. [The Hockey News]
Neate Sager defends Rangers 1st round pick J.T. Miller’s decision to skip over the NCAA to play in the OHL. [Buzzing The Net]
Jess Rubenstein takes a look at the prospects that will be playing at the Traverse City tournament in September. [The Prospect Park]
Should the Rangers make a play at Zach Parise over the course of next year if he becomes available? [Blue Seat Blogs]
Steve Eminger feels the Rangers are a “confident group.” Check out more of what he had to say. [Blueshirts United]
Finally, today is the day for Islanders fans as the vote for the new arena is on the referendum. As its been appropriately billed, it could be a make or break day for the franchise’s future on Long Island.
As much as Charles Wang runs the Islanders’ organization haphazardly at best, they still have a unique mark on not only NHL history but also sports history as well with winning 4-straight Stanley Cups. To take that away, along with their rivalries with the Rangers, would be a huge loss for fans. I’d like them to stay exactly where they are.
