Ryan Bourque's play has stood out so far in Traverse City. (Blueshirts United)

Monday Morning (PP) Quarterback: The Weekend That Was September 10-12

The Kids Are All Right!

The Baby Blueshirts started the Traverse City prospect tournament in dominant fashion, beating the St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars 5-2 and 6-2, respectively. For a team that conducted only one practice before the tournament, they have looked like a cohesive, well-oiled machine at times. And to see a Rangers team score with a man advantage makes me weep for the future.

Certain players have risen to the occasion by standing out with their play. Tim Erixon looks like the real deal (and Calgary should be kicking themselves for not signing him). Ryan Bourque is Ryan Callahan 2.0. Dylan McIlrath is going to be an absolute force to deal with someday. There’s countless other to mention but this article isn’t the place for it. Their next game is Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Rangers varsity team will be announcing their captains today! As Adam mentioned, he believes Ryan Callahan will be given the “C,” with Marc Staal and Brandon Dubinsky each getting an “A.” For an organization wanting to build with you, having 3 homegrown players wear letters of leadership is quite all right with me.

Join me after the jump for the Rangers’ headlines you might have missed this weekend:

Steve Zipay interviewed Ryan Bourque, who wants to prove he belongs in the NHL. [Newsday]

Among the topics discussed, Jim Cerny discovered that Marian Gaborik feels Brad Richards will work out well with him. Every Rangers fan is hoping the same thing, Gabby. [Blueshirts United]

The Devils, bankrupt? Can it be? According to Josh Kosman, it’s a very real possibility because of a missed September 1st loan payment. And the Islanders aren’t bankrupt? Yikes [NY Post]

Scott Burnside caught up with Brad Richards, who feels like coming back to a John Tortorella-coached team will be like “the good ol’ days.” [ESPN]

Mitch Beck talked with Michael Del Zotto, who wants to get back to controlling the offense and having fun playing hockey. MDZ better bring his A-game because Tim Erixon is his main competition and he’s looked good so far in Traverse. [Howlings]

Mike Brophy asks the hot-button question after a tragic offseason, is it finally time to get rid of fighting in hockey? This blogger says no, but the enforcer role should be extinct. [Sportsnet]
