Monday Morning (PP) Quarterback: Recapping October 29-31

Coming off the heels of a 5-4 shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators Saturday afternoon, a mystified New York Rangers team has another tall order in store for them tonight. Winners of five straight, the San Jose Sharks make their way to Broadway tonight. Not relinquishing a three-goal lead with less than ten minutes to go should be the focus tonight if such a scenario arises. Or, even simpler, a full 60-minute effort would be appreciated.

Someone else who may be on his way to Broadway soon is Sean Avery. According to various tweets, articles, and other mediums that don’t include an official team statement, the Rangers will be placing lightning rod Avery on re-entry waivers as early as noon today. If he makes it through unclaimed, Avery would be eligible for Thursday’s game against the Ducks.

If this move is true, it’s a very curious one. Torts’ claimed there were simply better players than Avery on the team before exiling him to Connecticut before the season started. Now, just nine games in, he would be back to save the day? I’m not buying this one as Torts; this is all Glen Sather’s doing.

But, if you ask me do I feel Sean Avery could help this team right now then my answer is yes. His skills have diminished, he’s not as effective as in years’ past, but he ignites the MSG crowd like no other and that energy could rub off on the team. It’s still very early in the season, but it seems the Blueshirts need a shot of adrenaline to get going and Sean Avery could be the source.

Fans have clamored for some youth to be inserted into the lineup in exchange for the spare parts (EC, Wolski) to come out. Pat Leonard found out Mats Zuccarello was considered being called up with Kris Newbury going down, but Torts ultimately decided against it. Find out why here. [Blueshirts Blog]
