Yes the Rangers are on a six game winning streak and we should be very happy about that. But now is the time to gather up the points as opposed to waiting until the last day of the season, like we’ve been reserved to seeing in past seasons. The Rangers have some very winnable games coming up against the Islanders, Canadiens, and Panthers. I think the club and the fans would be happy if they managed to get 4 or 5 points in those games. The Panthers, despite some success thus far, are hardly world-beaters, and the Isles and Canadiens have been struggling and have not been playing good hockey. Follow me after the jump for why the Rangers can not get to careless/overconfident.
With all these games against opponents you couldn’t exactly get fired up about playing (Islanders aside), you have to keep moving up in the standings and you can not be satisfied with where you are at currently. The Rangers have to bring the same intensity every night because if they don’t it could very easily lead to a loss, as we experienced in the beginning of this season. The last game against the Senators is Exhibit A for this occurring. The Rangers came out flat in the first, but luckily for them the Sens didn’t put a marker up on the board. The Sens did take the lead first and the Rangers were able to take it back and ultimately win the game but against a better team the Rangers could have been buried by the end of the first and they possibly don’t come back after being down 1-0.
It is also not to mention important that they win these games because that’s what good teams do. They beat the teams they are expected to win against. Whether it be on the road or at home the good teams should win these games. The upcoming games for the Rangers are all on the road, which makes the task slightly more difficult, but they still should be able to hold their own in these upcoming games.
