With the nature of concussions, any notable progress is not insignificant. Thus, Larry Brooks reports very good news, telling us that Marc Staal has been cleared to begin light workouts. Staal met with the doctors monitoring his concussion on Tuesday and they signed off on him doing some light physical activity. Now, there is no guarantee that he’ll be complication-free once he starts these workouts and he’s still some way off from returning the the ice, but this is still welcomed news.
Concussion injuries should never be rushed anyway, but the Rangers are certainly making it a lot easier to be patient with Staal. The team as a whole is playing as well as anyone in the NHL and the defense has done pretty much everything one could ask of them, helping the team to having the lowest Goals Against Average in the NHL. The Rangers are doing well without Staal and we can afford to play it safe with him. His presence will great to have back, though, when he is ready.
