The Rangers are coming off an atrocious game to say the least. Managing to get only 15 shots on goal, the blueshirts lost to the Canadiens 4-0. Marty Biron looked very good at times, and looked lost at others. The Rangers couldn’t get anything going throughout the game, and were constantly chasing the puck and never controlling it. The Rangers lost every puck battle, and couldn’t get the puck outta their own zone. I could really go on and on on how poorly the Rangers played but that would put everyone to sleep. To be brief, the Rangers looked like that pee wee hockey team in the episode of South Park called Stanley’s Cup. For those that didn’t see the episode a pee wee hockey team took on the Detroit Red Wings in a game at the Pepsi Center and got slaughtered.
Read more on why the Rangers can’t let this one game get to them.
The game against Montreal was just ONE game out of 82 the Rangers will play this season. One game is a very small percentage of a total of 82. There is really no need to be terribly upset over this loss. The Rangers were on a seven game winning streak and that meant losing was inevitable. Did we all really think the Rangers were going to win 18 games in a row eclipsing the record of wins in a row by the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins? I sure didn’t think they were going to do that.
I take this game as a wake up call. The Rangers were overacheiving on their winning streak for sure. They were constantly out shot and weren’t generating enough scoring chances, and according to the advanced stats it’s a miracle that we even won seven in a row. So we should all just be happy we went on that streak because later in the season those points are really going to matter.
Not to mention our next four games are going to be the Rangers toughest stretches of games for the entire season. With games away against Panthers and Capitals, and then back home against the Flyers and Penguins, there is really no time to sulk about ONE loss. The Rangers need to accept that they played a horrendous hockey game and move on because the teams they will be playing against only get better.
