Per Jim Cerny the Rangers recalled John Mitchell and Carl Hagelin from the Connecticut Whale. This recall comes in wake of the Andre Deveaux hearing earlier today. Clearly the Rangers think he will be suspended for a period of time so this action comes as preparation for his absence tomorrow against the Washington Capitals.
Both Mitchell and Hagelin have performed great for the Whale so far this year with Mitchell tallying seven goals and seven assists, and Hagelin having seven goals and 6 assists with a plus 12 rating. Hagelin would bring a lot of speed to the lineup and he could possibly help get the Rangers forecheck going. With the Rangers scoring struggles lately maybe Hagelin and Mitchell could help the team get on the board.
On a surprising note Mats Zuccarello was not recalled instead of either Mitchell or Hagelin which leads the media to think it was due to his cap hit. I agree with that speculation. Also, there is no guarantee that both of the forwards take the ice tomorrow for the Rangers because without including Deveaux there are 11 active forwards on the roster. If they both play Erik Christensen is most likely a healthy scratch. Also, be sure to follow me on Twitter @Matt_J1.
