Previously we announced a new feature of Blue Line Station, which would be a video collaboration of the top five NYR goals from each month.Well, it’s been December for two days now, which means that it’s time for you to shave your Movember mustache, put on your winter coat, and watch our interpretation of the top five goals from the month of November. As with October’s video, we take a number of aspects into account when deciding on the rankings. How nice looking the goal itself is carries a lot of weight, of course. But the importance or significance of the goal plays a part as well; maybe the goal had a big impact on the game, or maybe it was a milestone goal for a specific player. Keep reading to see the video as well as some further comments. I don’t want to give too much away, but I will say that this month’s list is full of unlikely candidates.
I don’t think this month’s selection is as strong as October’s but there were some pretty significant goals this month nonetheless. I debated making Hagelin’s goal Number One because it’s a pretty nifty first NHL goal in a tight game against a division rival, but I think Avery’s goal against Carolina was the best of his career and set the tempo for that game, which the Rangers went on to win easily. It being his first since the re-call settled it for me.
A lot of names are absent that you would usually expect to be on a video like this. Outside of the fifth best goal, which was a nice play between Gaborik and Callahan, Hagelin, Mitchell, Del Zotto, and Avery are the players who dominate the video. Pretty unlikely cast right there.
Let us know if you would have ranked the goals differently or if you think we failed to choose one that was worthy of being included. Also subscribe to our Youtube channel and follow us on twitter at @BlueLineStation. Let’s hope December’s video is even better!
