Santa definitely gave the Rangers a great Christmas gift and that’s clearing Marc Staal for contact. While he may not play in the Winter Classic (He’s doubtful he plays) this is a HUGE step forward for Staal to return to the lineup.
Andrew Gross states that there is still no exact timetable for his return while Larry Brooks speculates that Marc could play in two weeks. Also, apparently Marc was doing “battle drills” today. That sounds pretty rough but he needs all the conditioning he can get.
In my opinion Marc plays a game in about 2-3 weeks. That is pure speculation on my part. When Sidney Crosby was cleared for contact, he spent five weeks conditioning and practicing before he made his return to the lineup. While that has no bearing on how long it could take for Staal to return I thought it was worth noting.
Enjoy the holiday break and let’s go Rangers tonight against the Islanders! Be sure to follow me on twitter @Matt_J1.
