With players like Mike Rupp (back in the lineup already) and Wojtek Wolski (recovered from sports hernia surgery) available for coach Tortorella, combined with the $1.9 million cap hit, this move should not come as a surprise. Avery has been scratched for nine straight games and the team needed some cap relief. It’s painful to still see Erik Christensen still with the Rangers. However, he comes with a lesser cap hit ($900k) and none of the distractions.
