$2,500 Is Close To Nothing For Del Zotto Who Makes $1,750,000 This Year. (MSG.Com)

Del Zotto And Kopecky Fined $2,500 Each For Altercation

You saw yesterday the video of Tomas Kopecky sucker punching Michael Del Zotto and the entire altercation itself at the end of the Florida game. Everyone had a feeling suspensions and fines would be coming down from the league so here’s the ruling: both Del Zotto and Kopecky are fined $2,500.

Here’s my quick take on the incident: Why is Kopecky going so hard in front of the net with 10 seconds left in the game? Seriously. His team is down by 3 goals and there is no need for it. Del Zotto cross-checking Kopecky in the head was a complete accident. He meant to cross-check him but the fact that it hit him up high was unintentional. Then Kopecky sucker punching him was completely unnecessary. Sucker punching is really frowned upon, especially in hockey. I don’t necessarily care that both were fined the same amount of money also. I thought Mike Rupp got in enough shots on Kopecky that Kopecky got what he deserved already. I almost wouldn’t agree with the league, if they suspended Kopecky just for a sucker punch. It was a retaliatory hit, and it wasn’t like he initiated the whole thing with the sucker punch.

Both teams will meet again on thursday to clear up any bad blood anyway. I’m all for players policing themselves. Happy new year everyone and be sure to follow me on twitter @Matt_J1.
