Tortorella Could Be Fined After Comments On Refereeing At WC

WE NEED MORE JAM! (getty images)

Well John Tortorella criticized the refs at the Winter Classic and quite frankly I don’t blame him. Asked what he thought about the calls in third period Torts called it “disgusting”. “Maybe [the referees] wanted to get it to an overtime,” Tortorella said, “I’m not sure if they have meetings about that or what.” I don’t think anyone believes Torts thinks that, but you can’t exactly say that in a press conference without drawing some controversy.

I do expect Tortorella to be fined for the comments because the Referee’s union won’t let the league get away with not fining him. Torts has been fined before by the league during his tenure with the Lightning, when he also commented on the on-ice officiating after the Lightning’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Thrashers. That fine was good for $10,ooo.

For the record I do think the calls on the ice for both teams were pretty bad. Follow me on twitter @Matt_J1.
