Michael Sauer Meets Dion Phaneuf (Willens/AP)

State Of The Rangers’ Blue Line

Michael Sauer skated today wearing a non contact jersey and he’s listed day to day. That is great news for the Rangers as Stu Bickel as impressive s he’s been is starting to become ineffective. When they cut to Torts reading him the riot act in Montreal the other night you could tell Tortorella misses his key guys. Tortorella said today that Steve Eminger won’t return until after the All-Star break.

With Michael Sauer coming back I think that first Bickel will lose his spot. That’s for starters. To maybe ease Sauer back into his role they could put him with Staal to start and then move him up to play with Del Zotto.

Then there’s Steve Eminger. Personally, I like Anton Stralman and think he brings more to the table than Eminger. More of an offensive skill set while still not losing much if anything defensively.

With Sauer and Eminger returning this also means the end of Jeff Woywitka. Look for him to be sent down when Sauer and Eminger are 100%. Not to mention Stu Bickel might not be a Ranger anymore. If they send him down when Sauer and Eminger return he can be picked up on waivers and I have to imagine some team will pick him up. The same would probably happen with Jeff Woywitka also as I can’t imagine him going to the AHL being unclaimed by someone.

Well there you have it. The Rangers are getting healthier and Michael Sauer coming back means good thing for the Rangers going forward.
