Bruins’ Ference Will Know His Fate Today By Phone, Max 5 Games

This from TSN Insider Darren Dreger:

As we know, if it’s not an in-person hearing, the maximum suspension length that can be levied is five games. Ference isn’t the classiest guy in the NHL – he’s been fined for obscene gestures – but he’s been outspoken about dirty hits that have plagued the NHL in the past. Yesterday, Ference went back on his words slightly, dishing out a dangerous hit on Rangers D Ryan McDonagh; a hit that could have been avoided altogether had Ference exercised better judgement.

Give Ference credit as he’s admitted it was a “bad play” and expressed some remorse for not letting up on McDonagh. It is not complete admittance to a mistake, but it’s better than saying the hit was caused by a rut in the ice.

We’ll know Andrew Ference’s fate sometime this afternoon. My guess: 3 games.
