Wojtek Wolski And Jeff Woywitka Sent To Whale For Conditioning

Wojtek Wolski and Jeff Woywitka have been sent to the Connecticut Whale on conditioning assignments, according to the Whale’s twitter feed. Wolski has only played nine games this season, his most recent being in Montreal on January 15th. Jeff Woywitka was getting consistent playing time on the Rangers’ third pairing until he blocked a shot with his foot and was forced to deal with the injury resulting from that. He hasn’t played since December 30th against the Panthers.

Wolski was clearly not going to get any consistent playing time with the Rangers in the near future and the possibility on him going on a conditioning stint was discussed for the past month. Woywitka’s case is slightly more curious considering Tortorella has not shown much confidence in Stu Bickel later in games and essentially playing only five defensemen in the third period. A possibility is that the injury threw off Woywitka’s conditioning and the Rangers might want him to get some playing time with the Whale in order to get back to full strength.

The maximum length of a conditioning stint is two weeks, though the Rangers could decide to bring either player back earlier if desired.
