Steve Eminger Cleared To Play

Steve Eminger’s separated shoulder that has kept him out of the lineup since December 17th is almost fully healed and he has been cleared to play by trainer Jim Ramsay. According to Eminger, the only concern is whether the shoulder is at full strength, but there is a decent chance he will be in the lineup for tomorrow’s game against the Flyers.
Whether Eminger is in the lineup or not tomorrow remains to be seen, but either way it seems that Stu Bickel’s improbable rise to NHL ice is soon coming to an end. Girardi, Staal, McDonagh, and Del Zotto are obviously fixtures in the team’s defense, and I don’t think there is any reasonable justification for removing Anton Stralman from the lineup. Nonetheless, I do think Bickel will be sticking around with the team for at least a little bit longer. There’s no reason not to carry an extra defenseman in case Stu is needed at the last minute. I think inevitably Bickel is going to end up back in Connecticut sometime soon, though, whether that’s the result of Woywitka or Sauer returning or Sather making a trade.
