2011 4th round pick Michael St. Croix is having a dominating season with the the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings, as we’ve pointed out last month. Prior to this season the Edmonton Oil Kings’ single-season record for points was 78. Michael St. Croix currently has 80 points with 20 games remaining in the WHL’s regular season. Michael St. Croix has produced more points in 52 games than anyone else in Edmonton Oil Kings history has in 70 games. I don’t think I need to further explain how incredible that feat is.
St. Croix was without a doubt a boom or bust pick by the New York Rangers, but if the season he’s having with the Oil Kings is any indication of what’s to come, it was risk well taken. When asked about the reasons for his succes St. Croix says all the right things, and his comments about the Rangers are particularly nice to see.
After being drafted to the Rangers, I wanted to prove to the Rangers organization that they made a good decision taking me in the draft
St. Croix’s stock fell sharply prior to the draft and no doubt he’s upset that he had to wait until the 4th round to be selected. But nonetheless, now is his chance to prove the scouts who doubted him wrong. So far he’s doing a tremendous job of that.
