Scott Gomez: The Gift That Keeps On Giving

I'm Going To Guess Gomez Didn't Bury This Rebound. Mandatory Credit: Jean-Yves Ahern-US PRESSWIRE

To coincide with the anniversary of Scotty Gomez’s last goal I’m going to break down the trade that sent Gomez to Montreal. To Montreal: Scott Gomez, Tom Pyatt, Mike Busto. To New York: Chris Higgins, Doug Janik, Ryan Mcdonagh, and Pavel Valentenko.

Higgins was good for the Rangers because he was used to acquire Brandon Prust. Doug Janik never signed with the Rangers. Valentenko was a bit of a throw in that never panned out. Ryan Mcdonagh though, what can I say? The guy is a beast and I think will be the best defenseman on the team.

For Montreal they got Tom Pyatt who has played a quite a few games but hasn’t done anything spectacular. Meanwhile Michael Busto is playing in the ECHL. That leaves Scott Gomez. One of the highest paid players in the NHL with by far the lowest productions.

Sather made out like a gang buster in this deal. Getting rid of Gomez’s cap hit allowed Sather to acquire Marian Gaborik. By 2011 the Rangers saw the products of this trade on the ice in the form of Ryan Mcdonagh and the indirect forms of Marian Gaborik and Brandon Prust. I now leave you with a link to a HF boards thread from the Montreal perspective of this day. Enjoy reading and try not to die of laughter. http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=656981
