Henrik Lundqvist Is Best Shootout Goaltender, According To Players

Sports Illustrated occasionally polls NHL players anonymously about various hockey topics. SI recently asked 186 NHL players who the best shootout goaltender is, and it should come no surprise to any Rangers fan that Henrik Lundqvist was ranked number one.

Statistically speaking the argument is very much in favor of Henrik being the best goaltender in the NHL for shootouts. He is the leader among all active goaltenders in shootout victories and is 4th overall in save % for active goaltenders with at least 100 shots faced. Statistics are statistics, however. What’s nice about this poll is that, aside from peer appreciation for The King, the Rangers have a mental edge in the shootout since player perception is that he’s as difficult as anyone to beat.
