There is some speculation surrounding Chris Kreider. There are some reports flying around that at the end of Boston College’s season Kreider could sign with the Rangers, and play either with them or down in Hartford. I do like the idea of this if management thinks Kreider is ready for “the show”. If they don’t think he’s ready, then there is no reason the Rangers should burn a year off of his entry level contract. But maybe Kreider is the person the Rangers are looking for to get them over the top. I have to say it is risky for someone to make their NHL debut in the playoffs. Jarome Iginla did it and in the two games he played with the team, scored 2 points. Another comparable I see for Kreider is Tyler Seguin last year. Seguin was initially scratched from the playoffs and then was inserted into the lineup and played very well for the Bruins.
In all honesty I don’t really have an opinion on whether or not the Rangers should sign him. It’s a decision that’s up to Sather, and I can’t analyze Kreider’s play enough to make a decision in how that’s going to translate to the NHL level. Kreider will definitely be ready to play next year in the pro’s which is the choice I hope he makes. After all, Kreider may want to graduate college and play out his senior year so the decision is entirely up to him.
