UPDATE: Detroit beat writer Ansar Khan has Detroit GM Ken Holland on record as saying that the Red Wings are not moving Brad Stuart.
That’s the latest unconfirmed report circulating Twitter at the moment. Here’s the tweet from Newsday’s Steve Zipay (the 1st to report it):
Hearing rumor of Det D Brad Stuart to NYR for picks. Unconfirmed.

If true, New York is the clear winner here. Stuart is 32, a UFA at season’s end (carrying a $3.75 cap-hit), and is currently logging nearly 20 minutes a night for Detroit.
It’s been written at Blue Line Station by me that the Rangers may need a defenseman more than a scorer because of Torts’ lack of trust in his bottom 3 defenseman. Adding a proven vet like Stuart—who brings a much-needed physical element to the back line—into a top-four role would bump a player like Anton Stralman down the depth chart into a more comfortable role.
Keep in mind this is an unconfirmed report and may not actually happen. However, if the trade does indeed go down and just for draft picks, it’s another feather in Glen Sather’s trade cap.
