One of the biggest stories in last night’s disappointing loss was Brandon Dubinsky getting out of the doghouse. Last night he played on a line with Mike Rupp and John Scott to start the game and looked awesome with the puck. Maybe that was a product of knowing that Rupp and Scott are one of the more offensively challenged players on the team, but none the less that was probably Dubinsky’s best game all year.
So after all that Tortorella rewards Dubinsky by putting him on a line with Richards and Gaborik, and when the Rangers need the equalizer Dubinsky puts it in the back of the net. What a goal also. Dubinsky definitely did not look like a player who had six goals up until that point on the season. That goal has to be a confidence builder.
Is this a sign of good things to come for Dubinsky? Only time will tell, but I think Dubinsky definitely received the message at least for the game last night. I know some people aren’t exactly in love with Dubinsky but if the Rangers are going to go deep in the playoffs Dubinsky is going to have to play a part of that.
