Rangers Should Trade Zuccarello’s Rights

It’s clear that Mats Zuccarello wants to play in the NHL, and sadly it’s also clear that the Rangers (ore specifically John Tortorella) won’t give him that opportunity. Zuccarello probably won’t be able to crack next year’s Rangers roster even if he did re-sign with the Rangers. That’s why the Rangers need to do the right thing and trade his rights.

Whether it be at the draft or in the summer, Glen Sather should deal MZA and get whatever he can for him at this point. Whether he trades him straight up for a draft pick, or is part of a larger trade doesn’t really matter. The least the Rangers can do for Zuccarello is send him to a team where can get a chance to prove himself to become a full time NHLer.

Personally, I think Zuccarello will find his place in the league. The guy was the MVP of the Swedish Elite League, and those guys don’t exactly grow on trees. Zuccarello, however, won’t find his place on this Rangers team. Maybe if this were still Tom Renney’s Rangers I’d think differently, but Torts doesn’t seem to be in love with Zuccarello which is all that matters right now. I can’t argue with the results of making it to the Eastern Conference Finals, so Tortorella gets a bit of a free pass to use his judgement in these kinds of situations. He clearly knows what he’s doing.

It’s going to be a fun filled offseason. Be sure to follow me on twitter @Matt_J1.
