- Cristoval Nieves (C): So apparently I was the only Ranger fan that didn’t know who “Boo” Nieves is, and this bums me out. However, as you can see from the photo above, I did get to meet him. Really nice guy. His assists count speaks more to a play maker than a goal scorer, something that the New York Rangers really specialize in. Hopefully through his development at University of Michigan, he learns to shoot the puck more.
- Traded with Nashville Predators for their 2013 3rd round draft pick. Totally helpful there.
- Calle Andersson (D): Could Andersson be the answer to the New York Rangers lack of booming shot? Sure the young player still needs time to develop, but if he continues to work on his size and strength, Andersson could be the one to fill that need. He’s also the son of Peter Andersson, former New York Ranger and Florida Panther.
- Thomas Spelling (W): Committed to playing with Rogle in the Swedish Elite League next season, this young winger registered 37 points in 33 games this past season, with 21 being goals. While Spelling is a few years away from being NHL ready, his already decent stats are making me excited. A 5th round pick up is hit or miss, but considering the New York Rangers history in late draft picks, he has the potential to be another one of those game changing player.
Please remember, I am no way a scout or even aware of player development in the Juniors. I could be completely off with all of these predictions, but hey, the draft was a blast. I met a ton of writers from the Fansided network and beyond, met two draftees and saw the Consol Energy Center. All and all it was a good time.
