Anton Stralman Back For Another Two Years

The Rangers have avoided arbitration with Anton Stralman and both sides agreed to a two year deal worth $3.4 million dollars. Stralman’s cap hit next season will be $1.7 million dollars. The cap hit is a bit higher than I expected but I don’t think it’s shear overpayment.

Stralman was a very good fill in for Marc Staal when the team was absolutely scrambling to find someone to replace Staal while he was out with injury. Stralman actually was in the New Jersey Devils training camp on a try out basis, but they released him and didn’t give him a contract. What a good pick up that turned out to be.

I liked Stralman’s game last season. relatively good defense, and probably one of the better offensive skill sets on the team. It took a while for Tortorella to give Stralman power play time, but Stralman improved the power play a bit when he was on it. This is definitely a good move by the team bringing Stralman back.
