Rangers Re-Up Eminger For One Year

In a bit of Rangers related news the Rangers have re-signed defenseman Steve Eminger. With Michael Sauer still unhealthy and apparently not getting better, it was important the Rangers have some depth on the backend. With the way Rangers defenseman were dropping like flies last year, you don’t want to get stuck with the Jeff Woywitka’s of the world off the waiver wire if injuries occur.

I thought last year Eminger was meh. Not a whole lot of good, and not a whole lot of bad. A pretty steady 7th defenseman option. What is alarming though, is when he was healthy Stu “3 minutes” Bickel got the nod over him. If Eminger can return to his end of 2010-11 season performance, I think he’d be a better option than Stu Bickel going forward if either one of them has to play.

Eminger also took a pay cut as his salary this year is $750,000. A $50,000 decrease from last year. I’d say that’s very reasonable for Eminger and the role he fills.
