With the lockout officially here both the NHL and NHLPA are trying to win media battles.
The NHL released this statement yesterday.
Meanwhile, the NHLPA released this video featuring current NHL players. What’s funny about this video is that some of the players talk about concessions the NHLPA made in 2004, while those same players weren’t even in the league at the time. Not that they’re wrong, but they’re talking as if they themselves conceded salary and other things.
The truth of the matter is nobody cares about PR points. The people the players and owners are trying to reach are the fans. The fans don’t really care who did what to who, or anything else in this fiasco. They just want a hockey season.
What is getting the fans on either side of the fence going to do for the players or owners? I can assure you it won’t swing anything in anyone’s favor. If the fans side with the NHLPA the owners will carry out what they want to anyway. If the fans side with the owners it won’t change the owners tactics at all. It’s been the same game plan with them since day 1.
Happy day 2 of the lockout everyone.
