Rick Nash Going To HC Davos, With Hagelin Expected To Sign In Sweden

It’s surprising news, but at the same time not really. Rick Nash has opted to play for Davos in Switzerland during the duration of the NHL lockout. He’ll be joined by Joe Thornton who was his linemate on team Canada, as well as his teammate at Davos during the 04-05 lockout. Right now there’s a mass exodus of players going to Europe and I expect the exodus to continue at least for the best players in the world.

Carl Hagelin is in talks with Sodertalje in Sweden and expected to sign. Reports say Hagelin will be joined by Niklas Grossman, Jhonas Enroth, Jonathan Ericsson, and Mikael Sameulsson. This is NOT the SEL, Sodertalje is apart of Allsvenkan.

Players like Ilya Kovalchuk, Evgeni Malkin, and Sergei Gonchar wasted no time joining the KHL with their respective clubs.

Jaromir Jagr is also going back to Kladno in his native Czech Republic.

Brad Richards joined AK Bars-Kazan back in the last lockout so it will be interesting to see if he has any desire to go back overseas. Marian Gaborik joined his old club in Slovakia, HC Dukla Trencin as well as Sweden’s Farjestads BK that same year. With his shoulder injury I don’t see him as a flight risk to join a European club.

Another Ranger who might go overseas is Henrik Lundqvist. I’m sure everyone is waiting to hear his decision in the coming days to stay or go.

Here’s a clip of Nash and Thornton winning the Spengler Cup in 04 with Davos.
