Double Post: Mcdonagh To KHL/How Can You Blame Prust?

Another NYR bites the dust as Ryan Mcdonagh signs in the KHL with Barys in the land of Borat. Otherwise known as Kazakhstan. My only comment for Mcdonagh is to stay safe, and come back when the lockouts over. I don’t blame him for wanting to earn a paycheck.

Last night on twitter I saw a lot of Rangers fans giving Brandon Prust some stick for signing with the Montreal Canadiens. He was going at it a bit with Boomer Esiason and some Rangers fans took offense to what Prust had to say.

First off let’s revisit Prust’s contract with the Canadiens. I am so happy Glen Sather did not give him that contract. I love Prust, but I wouldn’t love him if he was making $2.5 million a year. Right now that would be eighth highest cap hit on the team. Is Prust even close to being the eighth best player on the team? Hell no.

People called Prust greedy as he took more money over a chance to win the cup. The Canadiens aren’t as bad a team people think, and the difference what the Rangers would have paid Prust and what the Canadiens will is significant. The Rangers final offer was $1.8 million for three years meanwhile Prust will be making $10 million dollars over the next four years. Have any of us had that kind of money staring into our face like that before? I think not. Anyone who says the difference in salary is worth it to win the cup is kidding themselves.

Rant over.
