While there’s no NHL hockey going on, NCAA hockey is going strong. Brady Skjei had a goal and assist for the University of Minnesota when they took on Michigan State on Saturday night. The Gophers won the game in blowout fashion 7-1, and Skjei scored the sixth goal for the team. This game was going on when the Yankees were getting destroyed by the Tigers, so I managed to catch quite a bit of it. I thought Skjei looked very comfortable on defense and displayed Ryan Mcdonagh like skills; Good puck moving, good defense, good skating. Although most people say they like the prospect their team drafted I am very happy the Rangers drafted Skjei. The Whale look pretty bad on defense, and the Rangers right now are lacking defensive depth on the farm. Skjei and Dylan Mcilrath right now are possibly the only players that can make the Rangers in a couple years. Hopefully Skjei’s development continues and he can take the Ryan Mcdonagh/Derek Stepan path to the NHL. Be sure to follow me on twitter @Matt_J1.
