Who Can The Rangers Sign Before The Season Starts?

This entire post is contingent on the NHL having a 48 game season and a training camp so keep that in mind. For argument’s sake let’s say the players and owners agree to have a salary cap at $65 million. That seems reasonable considering it’s a compromise on both sides at this point. The Rangers have to sign Michael Del Zotto before the season but that shouldn’t keep them from being able to add most players who are currently free agents before the season. Everyone that’s currently a free agent would probably take a one year contract at this point in time. The Rangers have very little offensive depth and might look to add someone off free agency to help shore that up. Let’s go down the line on who would be a good addition and could slot into the third line. -Daymond Langkow: Langkow’s provided a good amount of offense over his career and for half a season he could be a very good buy on a one year deal. -Dominic Moore: He’s a former Ranger who can easily slot into a 3rd or 4th liner’s role. Not an offensive punch, but Moore could kill penalties and play tough minutes. -Jason Blake: Yes he’s a former Islander but I think for half a season Blake can provide something. He’s still got a little something left in the tank and is one full season removed from 30 plus points. He is old at 39 but I think he’s still has something to offer. -Jason Arnott: He’s obviously not what he once was but Arnott at the age of 38 can still play good defense and add some offense. He had 17 goals in 72 games last season. He didn’t play overly hard minutes last season, but the Rangers have plenty of guys who can play those minutes. Be sure to follow me on twitter @Bluelinestation
