What Will It Take To Make The Playoffs?

Today I was wondering what the magic number would be for the Rangers to make the playoffs. In 94-95 (48 game season) the team with the lowest point total that made the playoffs was the Dallas Stars. They finished with 42 points in 48 games. The New York Rangers meanwhile finished with 47 points in 48 games and got that final playoff spot in the East. Taking that into account, I think anyone who gets 55 or more points will be safe. They’d easily make the playoffs. I think the magic number to make the playoffs will be around 50 points. Adding in Bettman’s shootout or overtime point the magic number will be higher than it was in 94-95. The goal is to get as many points as possible, but the Rangers really just need to go a couple games over .500 to be safe. Be sure to follow me on twitter @Bluelinestation.
